Kollaboration is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the promotion of a strong Asian Pacific Islander presence in entertainment and media. Our annual talent shows in four cities across North America provide a platform for young Asian Pacific Islander artists to showcase their talents. And it is through these shows that we also assist and raise awareness for other charitable causes. In the past 9 years, the show has matured from a 400-person audience to a 2000-person audience, with national and international branches established in New York , Chicago and Toronto , Canada. With 24 shows under its belt, Kollaboration has entertained over 15,000 audience members and over 3.7 million web visitors on www.kollaboration.org.

One Show - Behind the Scenes at Kollaboration by DPLUSG

History
Kollaboration VII was held on November 25, 2006 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. With over 1,200 enthusiastic audience members, the theatre was packed to capacity and alive with energy. This year’s theme, “Koreatown and Little Tokyo: Honoring our History and Working Together” was definitely realized through the performances, video presentations and audience demographics and participation. The night’s success was noted by many as, “The best Kollaboration show to date!” Our staff is especially thankful for the community organizations, celebrity guests and individual patrons who continue to support our event year after year and have helped bring us to where we are today. As we grow in size and caliber, it is our ever-present goal to stay true to our roots and mission, “Empowerment Through Entertainment.” Thank you!

About Kollaboration
ABOUT KOLLABORATION
Kollaboration is an Asian Pacific Islander American/Canadian (APIA/C) organization and Movement that was founded in 2000 by Executive Director Paul “PK” Kim. Under the umbrella of ProKreation Productions - a cutting edge, pioneering production company promoting entertainment in the Asian American community - Kollaboration became officially incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in January of 2006.

WHAT IS KOLLABORATION?
Kollaboration is an annual event and movement created by a small group of professional young Asian Pacific Islander Americans/Canadians, volunteering their time and skills to celebrate the vast talents of their community and hopefully bring them into the mainstream.

WHAT IS KOLLABORATION'S GOAL?
Kollaboration’s current mission and mantra is, “Empowerment through Entertainment”. In addition to encouraging the diverse talents of APIA/C youth, Kollaboration seeks to empower (1) APIA/C youth by providing them with a creative outlet and leadership training that serves as an alternative to gang-activity and delinquency for those at-risk, (2) APIA/C families by offering a platform for communication that bridges the gap between 1st generation parents and latter generation youth and (3) the APIA/C community at large, by raising awareness for other critical community issues and NGOs.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
It is evident that APIA/Cs are often categorized into a certain image. APIA/Cs may find it increasingly difficult to get jobs outside the "model minority" or "foreigner" role. Such barriers often result in the lack of APIA/Cs in mainstream entertainment industries. Thus, APIA/Cs are not only unfairly portrayed but also disproportionately underrepresented in the mainstream media.

Evidently, our youth are left with few visible role models and a narrowed pool of aspirations.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Through generous sponsorship, Kollaboration endeavors to bring about a paradigm shift of perceptions and to pave the way for future APIA/Cs to accomplish their goals and dreams that may be entertainment related.

Kollaboration is the stepping-stone.
